Salt spray test

Salt spray test

default

The collaboration between New Color and the University of Trento continues for the analyzes and resistance tests of treated metals to salt spray. According to ISO 12944.

ISO 12944 was first published in 1998 as a European and international standard – the only qualified reference worldwide for the corrosion protection of metal structures.

The standard is divided into 8 sections which cover from the measurement of the corrosivity of various environments, to the preparation of the support and laboratory test procedures.

To obtain effective protection of metal structures it is necessary that all operators in the sector have clear instructions on the choice of painting cycles and concise information also on the serious economic consequences deriving from inadequate protection of the support. Unprotected metal exposed to atmospheric agents, especially near the sea, rivers or in any case highly salty environments, it is subject to corrosion which can cause damage. To avoid corrosion damage, the structures are generally protected by a painting process that resists corrosive stress for the entire lifespan required by the structure.
